Newforms and partner company Phase3 Landscape Construction were awarded the detail design and implementation of the Mundaring Weir Interpretation Precinct involving the delivery of an iconic, high quality project in a high use and high profile public area.
Mundaring Weir is an iconic tourism destination situated within a functional services plant. Newforms has delivered a high quality design response demonstrating a sound understanding of the ecological and cultural significance of the site whilst managing a balance between the visitor experience and ongoing primary function of the plant.
Working closely with the Water Corporation, Newforms has imbued the Mundaring Weir project with an ecological and sustainable imperative that ensures an ease in maintenance and ongoing site management. The processes of the water cycle have been made evident and used as interpretive and educational elements.
The Mundaring Weir and surrounding grounds and buildings are rich in historic value and cultural heritage. Newforms successfully provided the desired project outcomes whilst respecting and adhering to the significant cultural heritage on site. Recycled materials including decommissioned Water Corporation equipment were used, resulting in a uniquely individual result that speaks directly to the site.
The Project required significant in depth liaison with many stakeholders. All parties had significant interests and vestments within the project that required an open and dynamic design method. Input from the Water Corporation was vital in producing the best result for both visitor experience and the ongoing function of the utility plant.
